On Feb.15, the 2012 class of Leadership McDuffie traveled to Atlanta for its State and Government Leadership day. Their first stop was the State Capitol to visit with McDuffie County representatives. Arriving at the Capitol in the morning, they were greeted by District 24’s Sen. Bill Jackson (R) and his team. With a short question-and-answer segment, Jackson, who is also the administration floor leader, was able to share information with the class before going into session.
From the House of Representatives, Sistie Hudson (D-District 124) made her introduction and was able to spend some one-and-one time with the group.
She also gave a tour of the State Capitol and answer ed questions from the class before she was scheduled to attend the House of Representatives session later that day.
Before departing the Capitol, the group was able to meet briefly with Gov. Nathan Deal and get a snapshot with him on the Capitol steps.
Once the Leadership class left the Capitol, they made their way to the Georgia Resource Center, a state-of-the-art facility where all of Georgia’s economic development begins.
There they were able to discuss earlier events over lunch before a presentation from the GRC staff was given, highlighting facts and statistics about Georgia and McDuffie County.
They ended their day with another round of question and answers with the staff of the Georgia Resource Center before making their way back to McDuffie County, where they could share the information with community leaders and residents.
