The THS tennis team faced Washington County in their home opening match on Feb. 21.
WaCo forfeited two of the scheduled boys’ singles matches, giving wins to Bryce Green and Peter Pin. In other boys’ single matches, Andrew Hyman lost to Henry Guo, 3-8. Ben McIntosh and Joe Hawk won their matches against Maurice Coach and Devonte Bass, respectively, by scores of 8-0 and 8-2.
In girls’ singles matches, Ciera Crippen lost to Harley Channell 0-8, while Anne Schiffner and Shelby Williford won their matches vs. Chrishay Irwin and Julia Parnell, respectively, by scores of 8-3 and 8-4.
Nayeli Monay and Shan Williams lost their doubles match against Darshay Brown and Mackenzie Josey by a score of 6-8. Shea Walker and Jakylia Brinkley also lost in doubles action vs. Shykel Malone and Ariel Duckworth, also by a score of 6-8.
“Each player did not appear to be nervous, but was excited for his or her first home match,” said assistant coach Jessica Watson after the match. “They all played well, and many made comments on how to improve their own game when reporting their scores.”
The Thomson tennis team’s next home match is Tuesday vs. Richmond Academy. Match time is 4 p.m. There is no fee for anyone wishing to watch the matches.
