The Bulldogs’ John Atkins got three field goals and hit five of six free throw attempts in the final period, scoring 11 of his 17 game points and matching teammate Ronkeem Sallywhite’s 17 points to win the game. The state tournament will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at Eagle’s Landing.
The Lady Bulldogs (14-9) finished their season Feb. 16 with a 59-33 loss to Hephzibah High School in the Region 3-AAA Tournament at Josey High School.
Most of the game’s points were scored in the second half, with Hephzibah’s Tiffani Harrison’s scoring 32 points. Thomson’s leading scorer, Brittany Reid, scored eight of her 11 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Lady Rebels’ 20-point lead.
