Briarwood’s boys basketball team finished the season with a 17-13 mark, falling to the No. 2 seed LaGrange Academy Warriors .
Coach Bo Bleming’s squad bowed out in the first round of the state playoffs, at Middle Georgia College in Cochran.
LaGrange moved to an 11-4 lead after the first quarter. Each team had 11 more points in the second quarter.
Then LaGrange scored 20 to Briarwood’s 7 in the third quarter, and topped the Bucs 10-9 in the fourth quarter. The final score was LaGrange 51, Briarwood 31.
Tyler Daniel closed his Briarwood career with 14 points and seven rebounds. Ryan Pritchett had seven points, five rebounds and three assists.
“We had our chances in the game,” Fleming said.
“We got looks from the floor but could not hit shots. It was our second-lowest point total of the year and it would not have come at a worse time. Our defense played really well to hold a high scoring team to only 51.
“We were 2-21 from the 3-point line, which really hurt as we average around six a game.
“I will really miss my four seniors - Dalton Reese, Spencer Hadden, Ryan Pritchett and Tyler Daniel,” Fleming said.
“They were great kids and worked hard every day. We accomplished our goal of making the state tournament, but we just hated to see our season end.
“We have a lot of talented underclassmen coming back next year and I hope we can build off of our success this year,” Fleming said.
