The Briarwood Academy Buccaneers defeated the Patriots of Nathanael Greene Academy 70-46 last Tuesday.
In the second quarter, Briarwood opened up with an unanswered 10-point run, and led 37-18 at the half.
“The key to our game tonight was scoring inside,” Briarwood head coach Bo Fleming said. “It was a total team effort, but Josh Adams had a great game for us tonight, with a lot of rebounds and inside scoring. Plus he stepped up our press by being over the ball.”
The fourth period saw mass substitutions by Briarwood. “We got to play our whole bench tonight,” Fleming said.
The Bucs’ next home game is Saturday vs Augusta Prep. Varsity play game time is 3:30, with the boys’ game following the girls’ varsity game.
The Briarwood Academy Lady Bucs defeated the Nathanael Greene Academy Lady Patriots 57-40 last Tuesday.
Briarwood dominated in the second quarter, including a 10-point run. The Lady Bucs racked up 25 points in the period while holding NGA to 16, and the score was 32-19 at the half.
“Our defense did a good job defending the basket,” head coach Clayton Parrish said “and that gave our offense a chance to focus on high-percentage shots.”
Briarwood pulled further ahead in the third, helped by three-point baskets and free-throws by starter Rachel Coxwell. “I never, ever get to go to the free-throw line,” she said after the game.
“I think we got a bit sloppy tonight, a bit lackadaisical at times, but it’s early in the season, and we can work on that,” Parrish said.
The Lady Bucs’ next home game is Saturday against Augusta Prep. Game time is 3:30.
