In a battle of the Bulldogs, Thomson defeated Harlem 64-37 in basketball action Friday at Harlem.
Thomson scored first in the game off an Anthony Moss free throw. Harlem responded with a basket to take a 2-1 lead, but another basket by Moss put Thomson ahead 3-2. Another Harlem basket gave them the lead at 4-3, but it would be the last time Harlem would lead in the game.
Seven unanswered points by Thomson gave the Bulldogs the lead again, and they would not surrender it for the remainder of the game.
Thomson led 22-9 at the end of the first period and 37-21 at the half.
Thomson continued to dominate in the second half, leading 47-30 after three periods of play, and wrapping up the game with a final score of 64-37.
Ronkeem Sallywhite was the leading scorer for the game, with 15 points.
“Ronkeem played us a good, solid ball game,” Thomson head coach Michael Thomas said. “He did what we asked him to do.”
“You do what you have to do to get the job done,” Sallywhite said following the game. “I think we could have beat them by more than we did, but we won, that’s really all that matters.”
Moss and Jonathan Atkins each had 14 points for the game. Sherrod Hart had 6 points, Antonio Coleman and Dwayne Williams each totaled three points, Kentrell Reynolds had two points, and Jamontae Beard had one point.
The win put the Thomson record at 19-2.
“I’m not really sure where we are in the standings,” Williams said. “We just take it one game at a time, and at the end of the season, it is what it is.”
Thomson next played Westside at home on Tuesday. Their final home game is against Josey on Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs close their regular season Tuesday at Grovetown. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
