Used-book sale helps library

Posted: February 22, 2012 - 4:06pm

Want to promote the love of reading? Are you excited about making a real difference in your community? Interested in being part of a group dedicated to accessible reading for all people of all ages?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above, we have a perfect opportunity for you. We are The Friends of the Thomson-McDuffie Library and we would love to have you become part of this great organization. Future meetings are scheduled for June 19 and Aug. 21.

The Friends is preparing for one of our biggest fundraisers; the annual used book sale, which will be held May 4-5. We need your used book donations to make this sale successful. Our library has been hit with sizeable budget cuts and funds from our sales help mitigate that loss.

One of our most important commitments is to work actively with our local library to raise funds for the annual Summer Reading Program.

This program reached 603 children who read 9,827 books in 2011. During the opening of the Summer Reading Program, we partnered with Scholastic Books to hold a book fair, which offers a wide selection of reading material for sale.

As further commitment to our community, we sponsor a canteen for our local veterans to personally thank them for their service. This event is held on Veterans Day and features refreshments, door prizes, and fellowship time.

The Friends of the Thomson-McDuffie Library are committed to this library, to this community and to our present and future readers.

Won’t you please join us?
