MRS. JUANITA DENT BASS

APPLING, Ga. — A funeral service for Mrs. Juanita Dent Bass, 93, of Appling, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Second Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Appling, with pastor, the Rev. Echols Miller, presiding, and the Rev. Dr. Philip Dunston Jr., eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Claude Moore Jr., Moreno Valley, Calif., and Albert (Naomi) Moore, Appling; a host of other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

MR. GARY FRANKLIN BLANCHARD, LT, USN (RET)

APPLING, Ga. — Mr. Gary Franklin Blanchard, LT, USN (ret), 80, of Appling, entered into rest Feb. 16, 2012, at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Damascus Baptist Church with the Rev. John Davis and the Rev. Joe Hester officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with military honors.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Damascus Baptist Men’s Bible Class and Cecil Kight.

Mr. Blanchard was born in Appling, and was the son of the late Harry Eugene Blanchard and the late Grace Odessa Prickette Blanchard. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired as a lieutenant after serving on the USS Gherardi DMS-30, USS Eversole DD-789, USS Gunston Hall LSD-5, USS Samuel N. Moore DD-747, USS New Jersey BB-62, USS Prairie AD-15, and the USS William H. Standley DLG-32. The highlight of Mr. Blanchard’s naval career was serving on the USS New Jersey BB-62 from 1967 to 1969 during the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Blanchard also retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural carrier. He was a member of Damascus Baptist Church, NARFE, MOAA, VFW, the American Legion, NRA and had served as a training officer for the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Nancy Beasley Blanchard; son, Michael Franklin Blanchard and wife, Valerie of Martinez; daughter, Julie Blanchard Bisel and husband, Jeff of Clarksville, Tenn.; brothers, Harry E. Blanchard Jr. of White Plains, Ga., and Randall Blanchard of McDonough, Ga.; grandchildren, Meredith Blanchard, Samantha Blanchard, Chase Bisel and Eli Bisel.

MR. RUDOLPH JACKSON CHILDRE SR.

CANTON, Ga. — Mr. Rudolph Jackson Childre Sr., 84, of Canton, Ga., passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at his home in Thomson.

Graveside services were held at noon, Monday, Feb. 20, from the Hillcrest Cemetery in Reynolds, Ga., with the Rev. Ed Towers officiating.

Survivors include wife, Lillian Childre, Thomson,; son and daughter-in-law, Rudolph and Julee Childre Jr., Canton, Ga; daughters and son-in-law, Clair and Wallace Zealy, Augusta; Cary Childre, Athens; brothers, Taylor Childre, Milledgeville; Jimmie Childre, Milledgeville; and sister, Betty Welsh, Tifton, Ga. Five grandchildren also survive.

The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Canton First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

MRS. RUBY ALICE SMITH LINDE

Homemaker

WARRENTON — Mrs. Ruby Alice Smith Linde, age 84, beloved wife of the late Mr. Fred E. Linde, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at the McDuffie Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Phil Bray officiating.

Mrs. Linde, a native and lifelong resident of Warren County, was the daughter of the late David Samuel and Eva McCoy Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Jimmy Harden (Shirley), Warrenton; three daughters, Linda Johnson (Rick), Sardis, Ga., Diane Ellis, Grovetown, and Elizabeth Hayes (Phillip), Dearing; one brother, Cecil D. Smith, Warrenton; three sisters, Barbara Cornelison, Lilburn, Ga., Helen Braun, Lilburn, Ga., and Faye Marshall (Pat), Athens, Ga.; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Smith.

MRS. KATHLEEN C. SWINT (KITTY)

HARLEM, Ga. — Mrs. Kathleen C. Swint (Kitty) went to be with her Lord in Heaven on Feb. 11, 2012 .

Graveside services were conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Pine Mountain, Ga., with the Rev. Randall Whitaker officiating.

She was the loving wife of the late James A. Swint for 56 years and the daughter of the late Leon and Mamie Cosper. She graduated from LaGrange High School. After high school she was employed at the local five and dime, where she met her husband, James. Later she and her husband moved to Harlem, and she was employed by Belks in Thomson for several years. She was a homemaker, a loving wife, grandmother and great-grandmother and was affectionately known as Maw-Maw. Mrs. Swint was lovingly known for her pecan pies and her regular notes and thinking-of-you cards she sent to her friends. She was a faithful member of Powell Baptist Church and a member of the Dorcas Sunday school class, where she served as treasurer for many years. She will be greatly missed by many family members and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Libby (Butch) Hargrove; three grandchildren, Trey (Lauren) Hargrove of Augusta, Beth (John) Cramer of Charlottesville, Va., and Todd Hargrove of Panama City, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren, Charlie, William and Sam Hargrove and John Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary, Daniel and Lydia Cramer; one sister, Kathryn (Wallace) Pittman, and one brother, Marvin Cosper of LaGrange, Ga., and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank her loving caregivers, Joe, Ruth, Ophelia, Pat and Jeannie from Rescare Home Health Care and the many loving caregivers at Kentwood Personal Care and Nursing Facility, all of whom took wonderful care of her.
