MR. CLIFFORD BOE BROWN JR.

THOMSON - Funeral service for Mr. Clifford Boe Brown Jr., 59, of Thomson, was held on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at 2 p.m. at New Hope A.M.E. Church, Mesena with the Rev. Patricia Wiley, Officiating. Interment was in the Society Cemetery, Mesena.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

THOMSON – Mr. Michael Joseph Carrington, 51, died Jan. 7, 2012, after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Ginger Upton Carrington.

Mike was raised in Milledgeville, Ga., and was the son of the late Joseph Carrington and the late Doris Carrington. Following graduation in 1978 from Georgia Military Prep School in Milledgeville, he earned an Agricultural Economics degree at The University of Georgia, where he played golf and football and participated in the Army ROTC program. He began his military career as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Georgia Army National Guard. Mike served proudly in Operation Desert Storm and was later assigned to Army Intelligence at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Following his medical retirement at the rank of Captain in 1991, he returned to civilian service in banking, finance and insurance. After moving to Thomson, Mike worked with numerous organizations, including the American Heart Association, Georgia-Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts, Thomson Bulldogs Athletics, in which he served as the stadium voice of the bulldogs, McDuffie Regional Medical Center, Thomson-McDuffie County Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Municipal Association, Rotary Club, Chairman of the Augusta Regional Development Commission, and many others he tirelessly served in various capacities. Mike also served on the Thomson City Council for many years. He was named the Executive Director of Forward McDuffie in 2007, where he was responsible for bringing countless jobs, businesses and industries to Thomson and McDuffie County. He helped direct the Chamber of Commerce with special events and fundraisers that brought the community together as a whole. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Thomson, where he sang in the choir, sang in the contemporary praise band, and served in numerous worship areas.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm., Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at the Thomson First United Methodist Church with the Revs. John Barnes, Beverly Casteevens and Daniel Roberts officiating. A graveside service followed at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, Ga. Pallbearers were nephews Jac Carrington, Tim Hendricks and Greg Joiner, as well as Will Phillips.

Survivors include his wife Virginia (Ginger) Upton Carrington; sons, Taylor Michael Carrington and Henry Clayton Rowland, Jr.; daughter, Anna Elizabeth Carrington; sister, Doris Dianne Carrington Harrison and husband, Alex, of Richmond Hill, Ga.; and brother, Allen Wesley Carrington and wife, Cindy, of Atlanta, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to University Healthcare Foundation, Upton Family Endowment or East Georgia Easter Seals.

The family would like to extend thanks and appreciation to the nurses, doctors and staff of University Hospital and ICU for working so hard for Mike and especially to the third floor Heart and Vascular Nursing Staff for their care and resolve.

MRS. ESSIE MAE REESE DIXON

LOUISVILLE - Mrs. Essie Mae Reese Dixon, age 86, wife of the late Mr. Howard W. Dixon died Jan. 8, 2012, at her residence.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at the Dixon Family Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Pendrey officiating.

Mrs. Dixon, a native of Glascock County, was the daughter of the late Amous and Lelia Johnson Reese. She was a homemaker and a member of Providence Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Richard (Karen) Dixon, Hephzibah; one daughter, Jewell Dixon Ellison, Louisville; one sister, Louise (Ronnie) Bohler, Thomson; and six grandchildren, Lynn, Toni, Howard, Faye, Jenna and Jonathan and numerous great-grandchildren.

MRS. AUDREY ANN BAGGETT EDMUNDS

HARLEM - Mrs. Audrey Ann Baggett Edmunds, 75, entered into rest Jan. 4, 2012, at Thomson Health and Rehabilitation. She was the beloved wife of the late Barrett Meldeau Edmunds.

Memorial services were held at 3 p.m., Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, Thomson with the Revs. George James III and John Barnes officiating.

Mrs. Edmunds was born in Dearing and was the daughter of the late Horace Thedford Baggett and the late Mary Cornelia Fullbright Baggett. She was retired from Civil Service with over 40 years service as Secretary to the Director of Facilities Engineering. Mrs. Edmunds was a faithful and devoted member of the Harlem United Methodist Church, and she was very active in the Chancel Choir, United Methodist Women, the Dave Sargent Bible Class, and served as Chair of the Board of Trustees, and for many years as Secretary to the Administrative Board of the Church. In addition to this, she was a member of the Harlem Women’s Club and the Pioneer Garden Club.

Survivors include her children, Angie Edmunds Johnson (Jay) of Harlem, Karen Edmunds Simpson (Scot) of Grovetown, Donald James Edmunds (John A. Adams) of Augusta, Trent Darrell Edmunds of Harlem; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and very special friends, Gwendolyn Dortch, Julian D. Prather, and Margie Bennett.

In lieu of flower arrangements, memorials may be made to Columbia County Community Connections, 399 Church Street, Harlem, Georgia 30814.

MRS. DEBORAH NOGGLE KITCHENS HOMEMAKER

STAPLETON - Mrs. Deborah Noggle Kitchens, age 53, beloved wife of Mr. Kenneth Wayne Kitchens of Stapleton, died Jan. 5, 2012, at the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens Thomson.

Mrs. Kitchens, a native of Greene County, Ga., was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Noggle, Sr. She was a homemaker and attended Thomson Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Wayne Kitchens, one sister, Rebecca (Roy) McCorkle, Thomson; four brothers, William Kyle Noggle, Thomson, Walter Calvin Noggle, Sr. Michael Lee Noggle, Stapleton, and Calvin Kyle Noggle, Grovetown and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Chris Davis, Donnie Thomas, Joe Kitchens, Brian Noggle, Walter Noggle, Jr. and Roy McCorkle.

MISS COLBIE LEIGH REEVES

HARLEM - Miss Colbie Leigh Reeves, infant daughter of Al and Stephanie Reeves, went back home to Jesus on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012.

Miss Colbie was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Laura Reeves.

In addition to her parents, Miss Colbie is survived by her big brothers, Rodney and Cayden Reeves; paternal grandfather, Roy Reeves; maternal grandparents, Roy and Debbie Grice; great –grandparents, Bob and Lou Varner, Lois Adams and Louise Reeves; aunts and uncles, Robert and Samantha Grice, Patrick Wagner, Adam and Emily Oliveri and Debra Grice.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Barry Goldsmith and staff and to all the employees of Doctors Hospital.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Westview Cemetery, Thomson, with the Rev. Randall Whitaker officiating.

MR. ROGER L. REID
RETIRED ARMY

THOMSON – Mr. Roger Luther Reid, age 89, entered into rest Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at the Georgia War Veteran’s Home. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Jeanett Phillips Reid and the late Inez Lemke Reid.

Roger Reid was born and raised in Lincoln County and was the son of the late Luther F. Reed and the late Ruby Kirk Reed. In 1940, Mr. Reid enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served 46 months in World War II, 34th Infantry, 24th Division; 14 months in Korea, 31st Infantry, 7th Division; Vietnam for a year in an Advisory Capacity; and was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. After 22 years of service, he retired as First Sgt. E8. While serving, Mr. Reid was honored with many awards and decorations. His awards included the Combat Infantry Badge with 2nd award, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal with 4 loops, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, Pearl Harbor Survivor Medal, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with 4 Battle Stars with Arrow, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 3 Battle Stars, Philippine Defense Ribbon, Korean Service Medal, Korean 50 Year Medal of Appreciation, US Presidential Unit Citation (for Combat on Corregidor), Philippine Presidential Unit (Island Combat) Korean Presidential Unit Citation (Deadly Combat Action) Vietnam Service Medal.

After retiring from the Army, Mr. Reid was employed with Wilson Ford, Huber Wood, J.M. Huber, Harrison Farms and Reed Dairy. Mr. Reid was a member and served in many organizations, the A.J. Miller Masonic Lodge #204 in Thomson, Harlem Lodge #276, Scottish Rite Bodies in Augusta, Alee Shriners in Savannah, Augusta Shrine Club, Thomson Shrine Club, VFW Post 7778 in Thomson, National Rifle Association and Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. Mr. Reid was a member of First Baptist Church and the Men’s Bible Class in Thomson.

Mr. Reid is survived by his daughter, Terry Bryan and friend, John Hryc; granddaughters, LeAnn Perdue Rozzell, Lori Beth Reid and great-granddaughter, Melody Brooke Rozzell; daughter-in-law, Kathie Reid; brother, Thomas Olin Reed and sister, Doris Reed Holloway. He was preceded in death by his son, Conny Mack Reid; granddaughter, Melody Perdue and great-grandson, Will Hawkins.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Leonard Dupree and the Rev. David Walker officiating.

Pallbearers were Neal Reed, Donald Reed, Hawes Reed, Thomas Reed, Jimmy Crawley and Steve Perdue. Honorary Pallbearers were Masons, members of the Thomson Shrine Club and members of the Men’s Bible Class. Interment followed in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors and Masonic Rites.

The family would like to extend thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Georgia War Veterans Home for the excellent care given to Mr. Reid.

MRS. TESSIE MAE EVANS ROGERS

THOMSON - Funeral service for Mrs. Tessie Mae Evans Rogers, 94, of Thomson, was held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Cody Grove Baptist Church, Warrenton, with Pastor, the Rev. Andrew Grant, presiding, and the Rev. Larry Neal, eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

MR. CHARLIE BO FAN STANFORD

WARRENTON - Funeral services for Mr. Charlie Bo Fan Stanford, 92, were held Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, 2:30 p.m. at Cody Grove Baptist Church, Warrenton with the Rev. Andrew Grant, Pastor/Eulogist.

Survivors include seven daughters, Betty Blair, Barbara Copeland, Rochester, NY., Mary Smith, Eva Mae Rhodes, Shirley Williams and Lois Mathis, Warrenton, Annette Parker, Gibson; three sons, James Stanford, John Stanford, Warrenton and Charles Thomas, Thomson; 57 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 10 great -great-grandchildren.

Services entrusted to Dawsons Mortuary.
