Jefferson Energy Cooperative recently donated a check for more than $6,100 to the Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation.
The funds came through JEC employee contributions throughout the year. Director of Public Relations Steve Chalker said, “The Burn Foundation provides such a great service to those in need. We’re very fortunate to have an organization like that in our area. The employees at Jefferson Energy were given an opportunity to help and they certainly stepped up to the plate.”
In 1988, the Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation was founded to assist patients and their families during and after treatment at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta.
The foundation staffs and operates the Jeffrey Vaden Chavis house at the Shirley Badke Retreat, where a spirit of volunteerism pervades. Each year, hundreds of family members lodge there at no charge, which enables them to support their loved ones during recovery.
The Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation also helps needy patients pay for medications, anti-scarring garments, and transportation for follow-up medical visits, all of which are critically important for successful recovery.
Jo Maypole, the president/CEO of the foundation, said, “Each gift is a blessing. The employees at Jefferson Energy have been gracious in donating to The Foundation for several years now and we sincerely thank them. We will certainly put these funds to good use.”
