Need help with your New Year’s resolution to lose weight and gain health? Come join us as we Walk Georgia.
Walk Georgia is a 12-week program to increase your physical activity in a fun, community-oriented way. You can track your progress with other people in Georgia. The goal is to be active. Move more, and enjoy living more!
You can participate in this program as an individual or as a team member. Individuals act independently of teams. You track your own activity and decide how you would like to move throughout the virtual state. You may create an individual account at any point within the program registration period, Feb. 1 to March 17.
Teams must have four members. An e-mail address is required to participate as a team captain or individual. Team members work together to encourage one another to participate in weekly activity and combine their cooperative effort to move throughout the virtual state. Teams are ranked with other teams in the state.
The online component of Walk Georgia provides an activity record to keep track of your weekly physical activity and time. The activity you record is translated into “walked” miles, based on average rigor of the chosen activity and the time you were active.
Daily activities such as walking the dog, going for a jog and playing catch with the kids quickly add up to virtual miles you can use to “walk” across the state. Log on to www.walkgeorgia.org to keep track of your physical activity. A drop-down menu lets you record pilates and aerobics classes, taking a walk or swimming laps in the pool, gardening, horseback riding or playing a game of pick-up basketball. Miles add up to “unlock” counties and get you moving across the state.
When you accumulate miles, you will be able to navigate a map of Georgia and chart your course to “walk” Georgia. As you move through this virtual state, you will be able to view fun facts about each county you visit.
Whether you visit the coast or hike the mountains, as you move you will learn new ways to improve your health and see how you compare with other individuals and teams throughout the state.
Pull on your shoes and join us as we move and become healthier. Walk Georgia is a free program open to adults, youth, families, schools, community organizations and employers. Visit www.walkgeorgia.org to register yourself or your four-person team.
When you join a team, only the team captain needs an e-mail address.
