Sophomore Mikelyn Willis was crowned Miss THS for 2012 in a beauty pageant held at Thomson High School on Saturday.

“This is amazing. It just feels great,” Willis said. “I just want to show other girls that they can be whoever they want to be, and no one else can tell them who they are or who they can be.”

Willis is also a member of the Beta Club and the chorus and serves as a home room representative.

Regan Turner was first runner-up, and Olivia Palmer was second runner-up.

“It was a great privilege and an honor to be named first runner-up,” Turner said. She is also active in the Spanish Club, Hasa Club, a member of the THS cheerleading squad, and a Diamond Girl during baseball games.

“I’m really honored to be second runner-up,” Palmer said. “I didn’t know if I’d win anything tonight, and when I did I was really happy that all my hard work paid off.”

Palmer is president of the THS French Club and a member of the Art Club and Glee Club.

Other winners for the evening include Samantha Sims, Most Photogenic; Dominique Gray, People’s Choice; and Haley Epps, who won both Miss Congeniality and Miss THS Eyes.

The event was sponsored by the soccer teams and organized by Jessica Ruark, head coach for the girls’ soccer team.

“This was organized as a fundraiser for the soccer teams, both the boys’ and the girls’ teams,” Ruark said. “I couldn’t be happier with how everything worked out. The girls were all beautiful, and they all worked very hard for the competition. And I had a lot of great help putting it all together. We had a great turnout, and everything went off without any problems. I’m very pleased. And Mikelyn and the other winners all deserved it.”
