Lady Dogs shut out Lady Panthers, 6-0   04/18/12 - 6:16pm

The THS Lady Dogs shut out the Lady Panthers of A.R. Johnson by a score of 6-0 in an away game Wednesday played at the ARC football stadium.

“I’m really proud of the girls today,” head coach Jessica Ruark said after the game. “We got out to an early lead and held on to it.”

Thomson jumped ahead off an early goal by Haley Oubre approximately seven minutes into the game.

Bulldogs defeat Panthers in OT   04/19/12 - 12:16am

 

The THS Soccer Dogs defeated the A.R. Johnson Panthers in overtime Wednesday by a score of 4-2.

Thomson dominated the first half of the game, keeping the ball in the Panthers’ end of the field for most of the half. The ‘Dogs went ahead early in the game when Marquis Cook sent the ball into the net approximately five minutes into the first half. The scored stood at 1-0 through much of the remainder of the half until Cook scored again with less than 10 minutes remaining to give Thomson a 2-0 lead going into the half time break.

Early runs decisive   04/11/12 - 4:40pm

 

The Thomson Diamond Dogs fell to Morgan County last week by a score of 5-3.

Morgan County jumped to an early lead against starting pitcher Jared Holliman, scoring three runs in the first inning. Morgan County scored again in the third inning and added another run in the seventh to grab an early 5-2 lead over Thomson.

Thomson was scoreless through the first three innings of the game.

Combined singles by Clay Blasingame and Austin Whitehouse and a sacrifice fly by Andy Grimaud gave Thomson their first run in the fourth inning.

Dearing adopts county disaster plan   04/19/12 - 12:13am

 

The town council of Dearing adopted the McDuffie County Pre-Disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan at their monthly meeting Tuesday.

“We’re required by the federal government to have something like this in place,” said Dearing mayor Sean Kelley. “Adopting the mitigation plan makes it possible for Dearing to remain eligible for federal mitigation funding. Basically, it just establishes a chain-of-command in the event of any emergency.”

Dearing also made plans for the town’s annual clean-up day, to be held April 28, before Mayfest.

Soccer teams fall to Grovetown   04/04/12 - 6:13pm

The THS Soccer Dogs lost to Grovetown on Friday, 2-1.

Thomson took an early lead. With 31:46 remaining in the first half, Marquis Cook received a penalty kick that he promptly put into the back of the net to put Thomson ahead 1-0.

Thomson held that lead until the 18:10 mark, when Grovetown scored. The score remained tied at the half-time break.

Grovetown took the lead early in the second half, putting the ball into the net at the 37:58 mark. Neither team generated another goal, and the score stood at 2-1 in Grovetown’s favor at the end of regulation play.

Golf tournament raises funds for booster club   04/05/12 - 2:11pm

The THS Bulldog Booster Club held its third annual Coach Bruce Blasingame Memorial Golf Tournament March 24 at Belle Meade Country Club.

“Coach Blasingame coached here for many years,” said organizer Paul LeRoy. “So the booster club decided to name the tournament after Coach Blasingame. We’ve had a lot of participation. Local businesses donated rounds of golf that we auction off, and we have a number of prizes that we auction off also.”

Thomson defeats Harlem; Bucs fall   04/04/12 - 6:10pm

The Thomson Bulldogs defeated Harlem 4-2 in an away game that went 10 full innings on March 27.

The game remained scoreless through the first three innings. Starting pitcher Hunter Bragg was perfect in the first three innings, facing only nine batters throughout.

Thomson was first on the board, getting a run in the fourth inning.

Harlem promptly tied the game in the bottom of the fourth.

Thomson regained the lead in the fifth. Harlem again tied the game in the sixth, and the score remained tied after seven, sending the game into extra innings.

Lady Dogs Blanked By Westside 5-0   03/28/12 - 6:22pm

The Thomson Lady Dogs were held scoreless by the Westside Lady Patriots in a soccer match played at Thomson on March 20.

“That was a tough game,” said Thomson’s Anna Carrington after the game. “But I think we played with heart.”

Westside wasted little time scoring, putting their first goal in the net just 6:15 into the game. They scored again 10 minutes later, and added two more goals to their tally before the halftime break.

Lady Bulldogs win in shootout   03/28/12 - 6:13pm

The THS Lady Dogs beat the Lady Hawks of Washington County 4-3 on March 13 in an away game that went into double overtime and was decided in a shootout.

“That game was a little too exciting,” head coach Jessica Ruarke said following the game.

WaCo jumped to an early lead, scoring the first goal a minute and a half into the game. The score remained in the Lady Hawks’ favor through much of the half, until Haley Oubre sent the ball into the net to tie the game with 15:04 remaining.

Westside prevails, 2-1, in battle of defenses   03/28/12 - 6:12pm

The THS Soccer Dogs fell to Westside 2-1 in regional play March 20 at Thomson.

“Westside came to play,” head coach Zack Tucker said.

“They’re a good team. They haven’t lost a game in the region, and they came to play. And for the first 40 minutes or so, we didn’t.”

The Dogs held the Patriots of Westside scoreless for much of the first half, but with 9:06 remaining in the half Westside slipped the ball past the Thomson defense and scored the only goal of the half.
